Hydrogen fuel: The future fuel

The future fuel of automobile: going for a long road trip with the family is certainly a fun, but this fun certainly has its cost. With the increasing fuel prices, the cost of maintenance is increasing dramatically. This problem of fuel can be overcome by replacing the fuel. The fuel which is going to take the place of the traditional fossil fuel is not like them which are limited and scarce. Rather it is one the most abundant element which is present on our planet. Hydrogen.

Hydrogen can be taken as a more efficient fuel in many aspects

• The energy storage capacity of hydrogen is more when compared to ordinary batteries
• The efficiency in the burning process is almost double when compared to that of gasoline.
• The waste product that remains when hydrogen is used as a fuel is just water.

One of the main activities which attribute to the change of any countries economical structure is the fuel it exports or imports. The fossil fuels are capable of building the nation’s economy or even damage the nation’s economy. Now the best remedy is to opt for an alternative fuel. American states depend upon the fuels coming from the east. The second aspects to look here is to reduce the atmospheric CO2, global warming and other environmental concerns.

Though the usage of the hydrogen fuel may seem to solve many of these problems, there are some drawbacks of using hydrogen as fuel right now. Hydrogen fuel cells which are a battery like devices are expensive when compared to gasoline powered motors.

Challenges

• The primary challenge associated with the hydrogen fuel cell is it cost. Right now the fuel cost is almost hundred time that of what is targeted.
• It is hard for the hydrogen fuel cells to compete with gasoline in terms of efficiency and the storage capability
• The amount of hydrogen been produced is also low. Measure need to be taken in producing hydrogen fuel in good amount and also in a cost effective manner.
• The storage capacity of the automobile should be increased so that more amount of fuel could be stored.

Though the usage of hydrogen as fuel for automobiles may take its time, it is the best remedy or the best alternative which can take the place of the more expensive fossil fuels which are even causing environmental concerns. The research on the usage of hydrogen fuel is going on and most probably the automobiles using the hydrogen as the fuel can come on the roads in about five to ten years.
