What to do when you became a victim of Cyber Crime

There is an organization which is responsible for taking Internet related criminal complaints, that is Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). It was established after partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and The National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C).

Once it accepts your complaint it does the research on the complaint and refer to the federal, state, local, international law enforcement or regulatory agencies for any investigation they deem to be appropriate. It refers to the above agencies depending upon the scope of the crime.

IC3 provides a convenient and easy to use reporting mechanism to the victims of cyber crime. These reporting mechanisms alerts authorities of suspected criminals. IC3 accepts the complaints in online form either from the person who believes that he is deceived by the cyber criminals or from a third party to the complaint. IC3 can help you in a best manner if you provide accurate and complete information to them. IC3 expects these following information regarding your complaint.
  • Name and address.
  • email id.
  • telephone number/mobile number
  • Web address, if available, of the individual or organization .
  • Specific details on how, why, and when you believe you were deceived.
  • You need to provide any other information that necessary to support your complaint.
