Cardiovascular diseases are the diseases where the heart and the blood vessels are involved. Cardiovascular disease is a term having a very broader sense of meaning. Any disease, it may be aneurysms or it may even be a heart attack, what ever may be its intensity comes under the same group i.e. cardiovascular diseases. Almost 30% of the deaths occurring in USA are due to the cardiovascular diseases.
Diseases of Heart
The first part of the cardiovascular disease is the cardiac problems i.e. the heart problems. Even the heart diseases are many to mention. The specific types of heart diseases are
- Coronary artery disease: Coronary artery disease is associated with the arteries which are responsible for the supply of blood to the heart.
- Coronary heart disease: This is the disease which takes into account both the coronary artery disease and also the effects which might be caused due to the coronary artery disease
- Cardiomyopathy: Cardiomyopathy is all about the diseases associated with the heart muscle. These may be mostly genetic. Ischemic, hypertrophic, idiopathic are some types of cardiomyopathy
- Valvular heart disease: The valves are responsible for the flow of the blood within the heart. The damage in these valves may lead to stenosis and prolapse
- Heart failure: this is the condition when enough blood is not pumped from the heart to other parts of the body. Due to this some vital organs donot get the required blood causing some disorders
Diseases of blood vessels Blood vessels are like tubes which carry blood to different organs of our body. Blood vessels comprise of arteries, veins, capillaries and Lymphatic.
- The blood flow could be restricted to our organs due thickening of the wall of our arteries, even the walls become stiff. This process is called arterioclerosis. Artherosclerosis is a type of arteriosclerosis disease which is caused due to the accumulated fat.
- High blood pressure high blood pressure or the hypertension is caused due the excessive force of the blood pumping through the blood vessels
- Stroke: When the blood flow to the brain is interrupted, then there is a sudden loss of brain function. This is called stroke.
- Sometimes, life threatening bleeding may occur due to the rupture of the walls of arteries which is caused due to a weakness or a bulge at the walls of the arteries. This is called aneurysm
The major risk factors which lead to cardiovascular diseases are
- Age: Age is an unavoidable factor or cause which may lead to cardiac disorders
- Gender: The probability of the cardiac disorder appearing for the male gender is more when compared to the female gender.
- Heredity: Heredity is one major unavoidable factor of cardiac disorder.
The major risk factors which could be avoidable:
- Smoking: Cigarette smoking can be one of the major factor, which is though avoidable can be a major cause for the cardiac disorder.
- High blood cholesterol: With the rising of the cholesterol in the body, the chances for the coronary diseases increase. The cholesterol effect though could be controlled; it is even affected by heredity, race or sex.
- High blood pressure: Blood pressure increases the load on the heart which may cause to the thickening of heart and may even lead to stroke or even heart attack. High blood pressure may be due to smoking, improper diet etc. so even high blood pressure can be controlled.
- Diabetes: The chances of a person having diabetes to get cardiac disorder are more. If the blood sugar is not under control then the chances of cardiac attacks is more.
Stress and alcohol consumption may also be the reasons for cardiac disorders.
The chances of the attack of the cardiac disorders could be reduced by taking proper precaution and necessary care. Some of the causes cannot be avoided but the other causes which are avoidable should be taken care of because Prevention is better than cure.
