What are Various Types of Materials used for Barcode Labels?

A wide variety of barcode printers like Zebra printers are available in market. They are used for printing different types of barcodes. The labels used for printing barcodes are of different types. Some of them are paper, polypropylene, polyester, and destructible vinyl.

Paper:
Paper labels are mostly used in places having short-term barcode applications. These labels are white papers having a permanent acrylic adhesive at the back. The cost of paper labels is very less and affordable by many small businesses.

Polypropylene:
This material is a white plastic film having a thickness of about 3 mil. It has a high adhesive backing. Barcode labels which are used for indoor applications for longer periods can use polypropylene.

Polyester:
Polyester is a 2 mil thick film. It contains a permanent acrylic adhesive and hence is highly durable. It can resist many types of petroleum based chemicals and other mild solvents. Barcode labels made with polyester can be used at chemical industries and other applications which require long-lasting labels.

Destructible Vinyl:
It is a white film which is very fragile. When you try to remove the label, it easily breaks into small pieces. The label thus cannot be removed completely. So it is used for security labels where labels cannot be removed.

Aluminum:
It can withstand abrasion, caustic and solvent liquids, and sunlight. Aluminum labels can be used for identification of fixed assets and equipments which can be subjected to harsh environments.

In addition to these types, ceramic and stainless steel are also used as label materials for barcodes. Various types of barcode like Symbol barcode can be printed on different types of label materials by an efficient barcode printer. Good quality barcodes are produced by these ways which can be read easily by barcode scanners.
