Things to be done Before Starting Drug Testing at School

Youth are more prominently seen addicted to drugs these days. Students habituated to drug abuse are less interested in their studies. They are absent for school regularly and do not participate in any co-curricular or extra-curricular activities in school. This also affects their performance in education decreasing their grade levels. So drug testing should be conducted at schools frequently. However, before planning to implement a drug testing program at school, you need to consider certain things.
  • You should decide whether it is necessary to conduct drug tests at schools.
  • The administration of school should consult with an attorney that is familiar with laws regarding student drug testing.
  • Make a proper planning for conducting drug tests. Many methods like urine, saliva, and hair drug tests can be done to check for drug usage. Choose one best method among them that is suitable to be conducted at schools.
  • Mention the students about the importance of conducting drug tests at schools.
  • The rules and regulations of the testing procedure should be designed beforehand. Make sure that they are known to students and even other staff of the educational institution.
  • Design certain guidelines and timings for conducting the drug tests regularly to prevent drug usage in students.
  • Disciplinary actions to be taken against drug abused students should be designed and informed to students.
  • Taking advices of drug prevention and treatment professionals, and other officials of schools who had already conducted drug testing can help you.
  • If possible, arrange meetings with students, parents, institute's staff, local healthcare agencies and so on to have some suggestions of the drug testing program.

Once you are done with these things, conduct drug testing programs to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
