Home improvement makes a home look more beautiful. Different materials can be used during home improvement process. Different types of woods are also used for home improvement. Different properties and uses are found in different types of wood. The main categories of wood are hardwood and softwood.
A hardwood, as indicated by the name, is hard and durable. Some of the types of hardwood that are used for home improvement are mahogany, rosewood, teak and walnut.
Mahogany is one of the types of hardwood which is more durable. The wood is so hard enough that it can resist any swelling or shrinking or warping. Rosewood is mostly used for furniture during home improvement. A very high polish is required for this type. The other one is teak wood which is highly moisture-resistant. Fine furniture, panels, doors, window framing, and flooring can be done by teak wood. Walnut is another type of hardwood that is very easy to work when compared with rosewood. Walnut is resistant to warping and shrinking.
Softwood is that which is very soft. Fir, pine, redwood and cedar are four types of softwood used for home improvement. A good finish is provided by fir, and it has a low resistance to decay. Window frames and furniture can be made by fir. Pine, which is used for furniture and paneling, is also resistant to shrinking or swelling. It is easy to work with red wood that is used for fencing, house sliding, paneling, and interior finishing. The other type of softwood is cedar which has a sweet fragrance. Shingles, posts, venetian blinds and others can be done by cedar.
Hardwoods are costly when compared to softwoods. However, each one has their own uses. Based on the requirement, they can be used for home improvement.
