Myths and Facts about Drug Addiction Treatment

Drug addiction will lead to many effects. Apart from advances in the technologies, there are many myths which are associated with the drug addiction.

Myth #1: Drug addiction is a voluntary behavior .
Fact #1: A person starts the usage of the drug occasionally. But day by day, the usage will increase because of the changes in the brain. The person will get addicted and becomes a compulsive drug user.

Myth #2: Drug Addiction is a character flaw.
Fact #2: Most of the people think that the drug addiction is a character flaw, but it is not a character flaw but it is a brain disease. Depending upon the type of the drug used the severity of addiction will vary and the changes may occur in the action of the person. A person's behavior changes along with the addiction because of the mood swings. The person will lack control over senses, instead the drug will rule the body.

Myth #3: Treatment will be done overnight.
Fact #3: When compared with the other types of diseases, this drug addiction is the chronic disease which will not be cured all at one. It is a procedural process. Most of the people should undergo a long term treatment process to cure themselves. But the treatment cannot be done overnight.

Myth #4: Treatment is not necessary. One can stop the usage when ever they want to.
Fact # 4: Once the usage increases, the person gets addicted and the treatment should be given. As the functioning is ruled by the drug, person starts craving for the drug even more, which makes him difficult to quit without treatment. So, one cannot stop the usage just by taking the decision.

Myth #5: Treatment will not work.
Fact #5: For lot of drug abusers the treatment will help a lot. According to the studies, 40 to 60 % of the people will not be involved in criminal activities after treatment. It improves the quality of life of the addicted person.
