Blood testing is used in the identification of drugs like EPO and artificial oxygen carriers by examining the haematocrit or blood count. Additionally, a blood profile of an athlete is developed to figure out average readings for each individual. This will help for blood doping tests later. The anonymity and representative methods are same as that of urine sampling.
The athlete is suggested to select and verify the testing and collection apparatus before a phlebotomist (an individual trained to draw blood) takes two samples of blood promptly into bottles A and B. The bottles stay in the custody of the athlete (who is always guided by an official) until they are closed in the sample collection kit. Then, samples are delivered to a lab for testing. If the sample A is positive, then B sample is tested. If the result is positive with sample B, concerning governing bodies are informed.
