Actions To Take Against Drug Abused Employees

If employee substance abuse problem becomes extensive, then it disturbs the workplace. So, coworkers and supervisors should take prompt action.

For Coworkers:
Do not allow addictive behaviors by ignoring, excusing, or fixing the coworker who abuses drugs. Based on the situation and relationship with the coworker (drug abuse), they have to take supporting steps to help them. They should try talking to coworker who is drug abuse about their concerns in straightforward, merciful way. Coworkers should also be prepared to hear excuses, apologies, angry remarks, tearful pleas, and claims of innocence from drug abused co-worker. They should just provide non-judgmental support and help them to undertake treatment but should not try to solve their problem.

For Employers:
A company’s staff is its most profitable resource. Every employer should design a plan in place for approaching addiction in the workplace and providing treatment for those who require it. Research reveals that addiction treatment costs less than replacement of an employee and has more significance in terms of customer satisfaction, strengthened morale, and improved job performance.

Tips to Improve Fuel Efficiency of Car

Driving in the highest gear possible without troubling the engine is a fuel-efficient way of driving. Use your gears wisely. A vehicle traveling at 37mph in third gear uses 25 percent more fuel than at the same speed in fifth gear. By applying light choke and avoiding heavy braking, we can reduce both fuel consumption and wear and tear of components. Research suggests driving techniques can influence car fuel efficiency by about 30 percent. Switching your engine off for short periods can actually increase fuel consumption, as it requires more fuel to get the engine started. The lighter the load, the lower the fuel consumption, emissions, and the higher the fuel efficiency. Worn tyres will also decrease fuel efficiency, so check the tread regularly. Driving with your windows open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency, more than running car with air conditioner. The air-conditioning decreases fuel efficiency too, so try not to over use it. Operating air conditioner in city traffic reduces fuel efficiency by about 9%. Choose an economical car, like small cars use as they are more fuel-efficient and produce lower emissions than large cars. Under inflated (filled) tyres can increase fuel consumption greatly.

Content filtering based upon Statistics

Statistical filtering, once set up, does not require any maintenance as such, and relies upon the response of the user to the incoming messages .The user receives the messages and marks them as spam or non spam and the filtering software learns from these judgments. The statistical filter does not reflect the software author's biases or the administrator's biases as such but it reflects the user's biases as to content. A biochemist who researches upon Viagra will not have messages containing the word “Viagra” flagged as spam because “Viagra” may show up in his or her legitimate messages. Spam messages containing the word “Viagra” may be considered as spam by any ordinary filter. Statistical filters should not just filter the messages by content but also by the transport mechanism through which they are sent. Typically statistical filtering techniques take single words in the calculation in deciding whether the message is flagged as spam or not but a more powerful calculation can be made by taking two or more words into consideration.

Software programs that implement statistical filtering include SpamBayes, Bogofilter, DSPAM and the e-mail programs like Mozilla Thunderbird, Mailwasher, and later revisions of SpamAssassin. Another interesting project is CRM114, which hashes phrases and performs Bayesian classification on the phrases. A free mail filter POPFile is also available which sorts email in as many categories as you may want (family, coworker, friends, spam and whatever) with Bayesian filtering.

The Effective Process of Team Building

In a team-directed environment, you contribute to the total success of the organization. You work with members of the organization to produce better results. Though you make belong to a function impression and to you specific to a specific department, you are unified with other members of organization to achieve the total objectives. So every team member in every workplace talk about building the team, working as a team, and my team, but few understand how to create the experience of team work or how to develop an effective team. The term 'team building' can refer generally to the selection and motivation of result oriented teams, or more specifically to group self-assessment in the theory and practice of organizational development.

When a team in an organizational development context embarks upon a process of self-assessment in order to gauge its own effectiveness and thereby improve performance, it can be argued that it is engaging in team building, although this may be considered a narrow definition.

The Process
The process of team building includes,
  • Clarifying the goal, and building ownership across the team and
  • Identifying the inhibitors to teamwork and removing or overcoming them, or if they cannot be removed, mitigating their negative effect on the team.
To Assess
To assess itself, a team seeks feedback to find out both:
  • Its current strengths as a team
  • Its current weakness
Improvement
To improve its current performance, a team uses the feedback from the team assessment in order to:
  • Identify any gap between the desired state and the actual state
  • Design a gap-closure strategy
