Day-by-day, the credit-card-fraud for online shopping seems to be increasing both in scale and dollar amounts. An offender purchases an item by telephone or through online by using a credit card number which is got unlawfully, mostly this is the most common type of credit-card-fraud.

Various means are there through which these frauds can be done:
  • Card number can be obtained from a credit-card generator site on the internet.
  • From an immoral retail merchant who gets credit-card numbers processed
  • Credit-card numbers can be obtained by offenders who use skimming machines to record multiple credit-card numbers through retail outlets.
  • Number credit card is obtained from sourcing discarded copies of credit-card vouchers via waste receptacles.
  • Number can be got by hacking into computers where numbers of credit-card are stored.
Tips to prevent credit card fraud:

General tips:
  • Ensure that sealed condition on receipt of a new card and that seal is not changed or altered with.
  • Your account is monitored regularly through internet or from call centers, to keep track of card usage, subscribe to email and mobile alerts.
  • Do remember your card PIN number.
Other tips:
  • Credit-card should keep private, don't share card number with others. And card should be signed when you receive that. You should not lose credit-card card.
  • You do not click email links to check account in online or offline. This is one of the biggest credit-card scams and this is a phishing attack.
  • Check the site whether there is “S” or not after HTTP:/, if you want shop online.
  • Check your monthly statements.
